Prison Ministry

Deacon Gary Pusillo leads the prison ministry for St. Henry Catholic Church. He and a group of volunteers go to  the Marshall County Jail every Sunday for a prayer service and  minister to the inmates. Spiritual guidance and counseling are also offered. Prison ministers fulfill what Jesus’ said in the Beatitudes: “I was in prison and you visited me.”

If you are interested in being part of this ministry, contact Deacon Gary Pusillo at (641) 753-7374.
Picture
A story of prison ministry from Deacon Gary.

"[This picture]was drawn by one of the inmates in the Sunday Services.  For over 14 years we have been telling them about Christ's suffering and death for our sins, and they have been experiencing forgiveness by accepting  the Mercy of Christ and a true devotion to seeking forgiveness for their sins.

The interesting part of this picture is that inmates would take pieces of it and eat it in a tradition of Saint Antonio. Saint Antonio has a large following in Brazil and other areas in South and Central America, and people practice a tradition of eating rice paper pills with a verse in Latin that Saint Galvao once wrote and fed to a woman dying during child birth. The women was cured and now lots of people eat tiny ricepaper pills with the words written on them when they are in need of special graces received through the saint’s intercession."
